Cord Boy Projected To Go Early In 2008 NFL Draft

Cord Boy racked up 1205 yards in 300 carries as U-M’s starting cordcarrier, never fumbling a cord in all thirteen games. His austere presence and his stoicism in the face of injury were beloved by fans.
SI.com reports that Cord Boy could go within the top five picks of the draft.
“Cord Boy is a good, smart, physical cord-carrier with great speed and good ability,” Carr said, praising the 20-year-old communications assistant from his home in rural Ann Arbor. “He’s done some spectacular things carrying cord for me this year.”
“It’s the kind of thing that, you look at the tape, and seeing the things that he’s done on the sidelines, he’s been a special leader for this team.”
Cord Boy reportedly impressed NFL scouts with his agility and field vision, dodging field referees and feeding seemingly endless cord at the Combine in Southern California.
“It’s amazing to think that he was just a freshman a year ago,” Carr said. “This kid has really grown up as an assistant, and Jim, we we were really hoping that he would stay with this program until it went wireless.”
Cord Boy was the target of a recruiting war between Michigan and Big Ten rivals Illinois, Northwestern, and Ohio State two years ago.
Highly touted, Cord Boy set state-wide cord-holding records as a technical assistant to KTMA Television, a cable-access station located in Warren, Ohio.
“He was a steal,” Carr said. “Even though he comes from a smaller division, and so people had their doubts that he would be able to bring it to this level. But I paid him a personal visit and told him we wanted him on our team.”
Cord Boy will leave the team short of setting the team’s cord-holding record, a 1441-yard, 389 carry performance by Link Wireman during the 1998 season.
“Link Wireman was good, smart, and physical,” Carr said.
Carr was quick to remind reporters that cord-holding has gotten more competitive in recent years.
“Because of the 12-game season, there is a higher risk of injury. That’s a testament to Cord Boy’s good, smart, physical toughness.”
Michigan’s explosive 2008 draft squad will also include jaw-dropping offensive tackle Jake Long, golden-armed quarterback Chad Henne, and fleet-footed tailback Mike Hart, three crucial members of the high-octane offense that lead Michigan to a season of, well, had its ups and downs, but we all came out OK, right?
